Auckland – Whangarei – Bay of Islands – Rotorua – Hamilton

As Christmas break was approaching Madison and I were ready for an adventure so we booked our flights and took off for a month long trip. Although it was our first time traveling internationally we opted for the furthest destination possible, NEW ZEALAND! Due to the duration of our trip this post covers the first two weeks we spend on the North Island. After a grueling 15 hour flight we finally made our way into Auckland. We had two weeks to cover the north island in our beat up rental car. Here is a glimpse of the beauty New Zealand offers.

A very popular tourist attraction on the North Island is the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where you take a row boat and view the ceiling full of glowworm species. This site is absolutely beautiful but we found that it is extremely busy, overpriced, and only lasts several minutes. Instead I would recommend skipping the Waitomo Glowworm Caves and just checking out The Legendary Black Water Rafting. This company offers an array of exhilarating caving & rafting tours. We did the Black Labyrinth tour as seen below and had a blast!
